Calling All Contributors

The comm is now officially set up, so get yourselves here and join. All people who said they'd like to be mods, remind me here so I can make it so :)
And now, for everyone helping out and handing me suggestions, I need some queries answered.


Okay, so give me any thoughts you have about any of the following:

* This layout can accomodate a banner, anything up to about 600 pixels long. Volunteers or ideas?
* Icons. monkeyscorpion has made a generous offer over at the poll, so what are you planning for us? :)
* The community rules. In particular, up to what length do we class as a drabble? Once all queries about the rules are answered, I'll draw them up for you all to see :)
* Challenges. I know there are quite a few people who wish to handle some challenges, so it might be cool to take it in turns to present them.
* How often are we setting a challenge? Weekly, fortnightly, etc?
* wickedfox suggested prizes, which really intrigued me. Perhaps a Drabble of the Week/Month ?

Get back to me on all this asap. The sooner we're sorted the sooner we can open for business!

Well, maybe I can work with someone who's making a banner, make a matching icon for the comm. Or I can toss my hat in and attempt to make one. Though I'd probably make it really simplistic, as when I try to make it look really cool, it ends up in the ugly and gaudy catagory. :) I'll make something Monday evening and throw it in a comment to this post to see if you like it.

Yay! I'm really looking forward to this, and will gladly help in any non-graphic way. :)

Re: rules -- I rather like the ones over at slashthedrabble, which allows 100 word drabbles and ficlets of 200, 300, 400 or 500 words. That gives people a little leeway, but still brings in the discipline of writing to length (mmm, discipline... sorry, where was I?).

Having a weekly challenge prompt is fun, and in this comm there's also scope for setting challenges specific to a character, perhaps. Given the limited length, weekly is probably long enough for a challenge (keeps people's interest up, too -- if one prompt doesn't inspire, maybe next week's will).

Prizes are a nice thing to have, esp. if folks get little graphics to put on their own page, but how does that get decided? (I've no clue how things like that are managed.)

Rules suggestion sounds good - so that would be exactly 100, 200 etc. up to 500?

As for prizes, mods could either take it in turns to award them or we could decide together, whatever you reckon will work.

Yep, exactly the numbers! :) Mind, it's not as if anyone's going to police that... *chuckle*

I'd lean more toward taking judging in turn, it sounds easier than wrangling group opinion.

Right. So perhaps the person who suggests the challenge should hand out the Best Drabble for that challenge?

Great, so now it's just a question of sorting out exactly who wants to be challenge-wranglers, putting them in order then getting prize-makers too.

Having that consistency (challenge prompter and judge being one and the same) would make things a lot easier, definitely, and would leave that particular challenge open for the rest of the mods. :)

I added a little paid time because the only layouts I know how to do are for paid accounts. As soon as someone provides a banner, I'll use it to make a layout and color scheme. If we get more than one banner, I can make multiple themes that we can easily switch to and from.

With the layout I'm using, we can have a guestbook entry. Would you want something like that?

All we'd need to do is make a post for it. Then I take the link and add it to the customizations. It will make a permanent link at the top of the page.
