Glad you extended the deadline - I was a little too busy to tackle this last week. :-)
Title: Tiffany Twisted
Rating: FRC
Fandom: BTVS - Giles/Cordelia
Word count: 300
He’s met the sort before, but never so clearly defined. Little rich girls, certain of the world and their place in it; Cordelia was born to play the role, to own the aura and the attitude. But for all her queenly airs she is a lost child, and she gravitates to the orbit of the Slayer with the inevitability of destiny. Giles is never certain how to deal with her, but he observes her with fascination, watching her interactions, studying her perspectives and learning her ways as he has learnt so many foreign languages over the years – with a quiet, determined patience that she will never recognise.
Her mind is Tiffany twisted; she values wrappings over content, glamour over quality, and mistakes the glimmer of gold for true wealth. On the day she condescends to join in the research he gives her an expensive book to read rather than an important one, and she smiles and accepts it as her due, mistaking his caution for generosity. Her contribution is small, but it is contribution, and he welcomes it with sympathy. She is not naturally shallow; she has been shaped that way, moulded into something that doesn’t quite fit. There is a beauty inside her far greater than the surface suggests, no matter how attractive she thinks the surface to be; a little of it glimmers through from time to time and the possibilities in it take his breath away.
He will never see the whole of it; she’ll be long gone from his sphere of influence by the time she blossoms into final grace. But there’ll be days when he suspects he might have had a hand in her transformation, in the process that led her from Hellmouth to Heaven – and sometimes he’ll wonder if that was his greatest mistake.

Date: 2006-04-03 05:32 pm (UTC)Actually I think the whole song screams Buffyverse, but to do that justice, I'd have to be a vidder - which I'm not - so this will have to do. :-)
